SLI Rig of the Month
Full Name: Nigel Vanoyen
Country: Australia (Brisbane Queensland)
Handle: Savage_Rabbit

Not bad for his first time!

Nigel comes to us with his very first self-built DIY PC project. While some could argue "beginner’s luck", we beg to differ! In this first DIY project, Nigel poured himself into research, spending over 2 months choosing the best hardware for his new PC.

His goal?

"I research the parts I wanted for about 2 months and I’ve built a SLI rig which is high end at the moment but also has plenty of room for upgrading in the future."

What kind of mods did he do?

"After building the pc, I set the two hard drives in Raid 0 and added an extra 2gb of RAM for a little more kick. I replaced the rear stock case fans (molded in white) with a pair of blue LED fans to add a bit of ‘bling’ to the case."

Was he too scared to try overclocking on his very first DIY PC?

"I overclocked the CPU from 2.4GHz to 3.3GHz (without raising the voltages so the temps stay cool) which helped a lot with extra 3D Mark points. After that I overclocked the Graphics card to get a core speed of 610.56 and a memory speed of 1092.86. After overclocking I benched the pc using 3D Mark 06 and got a score of 14383."

What’s next for this project?

"The first upgrade I’m planning will be a water-cooling system which will allow me to overclcock a bit more and squeeze a few more points out."

Congrats Nigel, and enjoy your reign on the "Rig of the Month" page this June!
